Amanora Park Town and ALERT announce first ever Green Leader Award 2010
Awards presented to 12 persons
 

Pune, June 05, 2010 - Amanora Park Town, the first township being developed by City Corporation Limited under Special Township Policy of Government of Maharashtra, in association with ALERT, an NGO for the cause of creating awareness on global warming; today hosted an event to celebrate World Environment Day on the 5th of June 2010 at the Temple of Environment at Amanora in Pune. The aim of the event was to bring outstanding citizens/leaders/corporate of the society together in order to foster mutual understanding towards aiming for a cleaner, more environments friendly and less carbon print/emissions city, by way of discussion, example, education and increased awareness amongst those in attendance.

Mr. Aniruddha Deshpande said, "This is the 2nd anniversary of Temple of Environment' and we are very glad to host this event at Amanora. It is imperative for all of us to come together and stand for environment protection and implement it in our daily lives. I am sure that the Green Leader Award will make a huge difference to the way corporates and citizens of Pune work towards a greener Pune."

"We have reached the tipping point, we have to make lifestyle changes. Now to bring down our carbon footprint, each one of us will have to act to provide a healthy future for our children" said Ms. Vandana Chavan, Founder, ALERT.

The event held in association with ALERT included 'Green Leader Awards 2010' to reward corporate and others who have been active in environment, protection and conservation. The list of awardees is as below:

 
Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar - His initiative to construct his new corporate office to comply to the standards of Platinum Rating of LEED Certification, leading it to be the first ever such certified building in Pune only shows his and his organisation's concern towards protection of environment.

Mr. Mukesh Malhotra - His untiring efforts of planting trees and making large span of bald lands green is a classic example of heroes who often remain unsung, who work quietly to enhance the quality of our environment. Even in the capacity of the President of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce he has used this office to pursue his passion and commitment to Mother Earth and set a rare benchmark for the protection of environment.

Mr. Pradeep Bhargava - His efforts in conceiving and putting up the first ever eco friendly industrial building at Ranjangaon is an exemplary example of his commitment towards protection of environment.

Ms. Sunetra Pawar - His untiring efforts to make village Katewadi an ideal village and to win recognition by bagging the First Prize of the Government of Maharashtra, under the Ghadge Maharaj Swachata Abhiyan and to have also received international media attention for the same shows his concern towards the protection of environment.

Amol Palekar - He is considered a legend in the film world but it is a rarity that celebrities like him passionately pursue a social cause. His initiative to beautify a nalla with people's participation – from collecting funds to its effective implementation is indeed very commendable. We wish to recognize his untiring efforts to make this world a transformed green urban space.

Mr. Hemant Panchamia, E-Sqaure - His efforts in using innovative technologies in putting to optimum use renewables in an otherwise much neglected area of entertainment infrastructure shows his and his organisation's concern towards protection of environment Dr. Eruch Baruch - Inspite of pursuing a very busy profession in Medicine and Surgery his passion for nature and its protection has been incomparable. The brilliant photography and his spearheading of BVIEER has made him a man with a difference.

ART OF LIVING, Mr. Nitin Pradhan - The Art of Living Community has taken keen interest in promoting tree plantation with the help of children and the youth of Pune. It is commendable that the organisation through its dedicated workers have enthused school children to grow ONE LAKH seeds into saplings and further to plant and protect them. Under the Mission Green Earth the volunteers of Art of Living Family certainly deserve recognition for this laudable deed.

ORANGE COUNTY - At Orange County it is very encouraging to see that the Architects and Developers of medium size housing complexes have resorted to innovative and sustainable green technologies in the construction of buildings. Electricity from renewable source, solid waste management, sewage treatment, alignment of building for natural light and wind are certainly measures which deserve recognition.

Abhijit Ghorpade, Journalist - Through his columns and articles in the print media he has taken initiative to create awareness and educate the citizens on matters of great concern and importance. The indepth study of the topic on which the article is written is a rare quality these days. Through his columns and books he has reached out to thousands of people and made them aware on issues of grave severity.

Jugal Rathi - He is one of the rare personalities who practices what he preaches. It is indeed very commendable that since the past many years he has been traveling in the city on the bicycle and has been promoting the use of cycles amongst citizens.

Nandkumar Gulabrao Ghule - He is a progressive farmer & grass root environmentalist. He believes in Earth is like mother, organic farming, farmer's prosperity and creating environmental friendly village.

The award giving ceremony was preceded with various speakers like Mr. Jeetendra Mali (DSK Toyota), Mrs Vandana Chavan talking about environment, protection and conservation. The attendees witnessed entertainment on the 'Environment' theme. There was a performance by Rocky Poonawala and the Pixel painting by Manohar Desai was a very novel idea. The event was attended by dignitaries like The Mayor of P.M.C. Mr. Mohansingh Rajpal, Mr. Bahri Malhotra, Lila Poonawala, Meera Borwankar, Deepak Shikarpur and Balasaheb Patwardhan .

Amanora Park Town is the first township being developed by City Corporation Limited under the Special Township Policy of the Government of Maharashtra. The developers will be responsible for maintenance of all public utilities making them more efficient for hassle-free living.
